The Edo State House of Assembly has dumped the bill seeking to establish an agency for nomadic cattle rearing and grazing in the state.
The resolution came about two weeks after the assembly held a two-day public hearing on the bill, which received condemnation from several groups, including the state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria.
The state Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, had also distanced himself from the bill, through the Solicitor General of the state, Mr. Wole Iyamu.
The House explained that the real reason for discarding the bill became imperative after considering the findings and recommendation of the report on the bill by a committee of the whole presided over by the Speaker, Dr. Justin Okonoboh.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Rules and Business, Mr. Henry Okhuorobor (Ikpoba-Okha, APC), disclosed that the committee received 54 oral and written petitions against the bill, with 12 findings and one recommendation.
