Meet Ummi Gwadabe- The First Female Commercial Pilot from Kano

Kano State in northern Nigeria is a tough place for a female to be educated. As a whole, the rate of literacy in northern Nigeria for children is the lowest in the nation. Once in a while, a ray of hope is noticed, and a very good example of that is FATIMA ABBA GWADABE aka Ummi Gwadabe.

In February 2015, she made the headlines when she completed her professional pilot training course at the Mid East Aviation Academy, Marka Airport, Amman in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Ummy Gwadabe was one of the 100 recipients of the scholarships given out by the government of the then governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to study piloting at the academy. Below are photos of Ummi Gwadabe and also photos of another batch of students when they finished from the pilot academy in Jordan in July 2015.
