The Nigerian government is reportedly finalising plans to begin the construction of a refinery in the northern city of Katsina which will harness oil from Niger Republic and feed the country’s North.
An official of the NNPC informed reporters of the plan. The Nigerian government has over the last few months “lost faith” in its rich southern fields due to continues sabotage by militants, criminals and secessionists.
Niger Republic, a country that borders the Nigerian North has discovered substantial oil reserves but lacks any refining capacity since its small refinery failed last year. But it sized operations, the Nigerien refinery helped Northern Nigeria maintained a steady supply despite sabotage in the country’s south.
