Northern Nigerian human rights groups have condemned the assault by a group of men on a transgender woman at the city of kastina.
The assault which was recorded by the assailants has since been shared on numerous facebook groups and internet forums.
The 4min clip shows a group of men forcing the woman to strip while children yell, cursing her.
Northern Rights watch called the assault a “dispicable crime” and called on the police to investigate, an action not likely. Northern Nigeria’s murky laws have been used to define the ancient transgender community of YanDaudu as “vagabonds” thereby possibly opening them to prosecution. So far, only sharia courts have been able to convict Tansgenders, often while they had no legal representation.
